Blog for European Capital of Culture, 2008 - BANNED BY LIVERPOOL CITY COUNCIL
Lib Dem councillor Paul Twigger has 'jumped before he was pushed' after being caught using university facilities for the Lib Dem campaign in Knotty Ash.
Twigger has quit his job at Liverpool's John Moores University after being confronted with the evidence by Vice-Chancellor Michael Brown.
But Twigger now faces an internal Town Hall investigation after trying it on a second time - this time by using city council facilities!
Twigger first fired off thousands of letters to voters in Knotty Ash using the JMU postal franking machine - thus saving the Lib Dems a small fortune in stamps.
Unfortunately for him, an eagle-eyed Labour voter in Knotty Ash was amongst the first to receive one of the missives and noticed the JMU postmark on the envelope.
The public-spirited voter immediately alerted Labour Party officials who sent an official complaint to JMU (with a proper stamp, eds)
Twigger was hauled in front of Brown and, under questioning, admitted that he had used the JMU franking machine to send out election literature.
Of course, Twigger insisted that he had sent 'only a few letters' out to voters. (He would say that, wouldn't he? eds)
A chastened Twigger apologised after hurriedly submitting his resignation - before he could be suspended pending a full-scale disciplinary investigation by JMU.
But Twigger did not learn from this - and tried it on a second time. (Nothing if not consistent, eds)
After shoving envelopes through the JMU franking machine, he did exactly the same thing in the Lib Dem office at the Municipal Buildings with a city council franking machine!
Again, one of his Lib Dem letters, complete with city council franked envelope, was handed to Labour officials by a concerned voter.
Now an internal enquiry Town Hall enquiry has begun into Twigger abusing his position and mis-using council taxpayers money for the Lib Dem campaign.
None of which should come as a surprise to any of our loyal readers.
After all, the Lib Dems have spent the last decade mis-using council taxpayers money.

Judging by the Standards Board, response to the earlier complaints regarding the Storeyteller and the felon Steve Hurst. Do not be surprised at any bizzare outcome resulting. After they (Standards Board) actually sat through the Hurst court proceedings had the temerity to judge his crime was unconnected with his duties as an elected councillor. Now here's a conundrum, if the crime was unconnected with his council duties. Why has he been given financial support by the City Council, to persue his defence and appeals for activities outside of his duties as a City Councillor. Reasonable grounds for a further complaint to the Standards Board!!
Whic one is the prize cabbage?
The report might be useful for toilet paper but not much else.
Like all investigative and regulatory authorities in this country, the Standards Board are completely unfit for purpose and exist solely to delude ordinary people into believing that there is a means of redress for wrongdoing.
I would wager that nothing will be done about Bradley, the same as nothing is ever done about any other corrupt politicians.
I couldn't agree more discusted from Kirkdale. That person has hit the nail on the head. Nothing will ever happen to Bradley, Hurst and Storey, as justice does not exist in Liverpool City Council!
I challenge anyone to show us othrwise?
I thought Tori Blair had gone into retirement by now and we would be spared his ramblings....?
The truth is that nothing will happen to Bradley, Hurst and Storey because they have done nothing wrong!
This evil little blog, aided and abettted by people like Anderson and some disaffected Lib Dems who were denied seats on the Exec Board, has launched a concerted campaign based on lies, deciet and Labour propoganda.
It is utterly disgraceful - legal action should have been taken by the chief executive to close this so-called blog down years ago.
Henshaw wouldn't have thought twice about it.
Anonymous, what a wonderful way to display your feelings. If you were as clear in your utterences as you would want everyone to believe. Give us some facts to support your stupid comments. Did you say Henshaw, is that the David Henshaw who had to leave town after blackmailing the council into filling his pockets with council taxpayers money. What are your views on Liverpool Direct then.
Another total fabrication - Liverpool Direct has been one of the great success stories of the administratrion in the last ten years. We never had one stop shops before and if you ever rang up the council to try and speak to someone you were sent from pillar to post. Now you can get an instant answer from LDL. It has also been a huge success in winning contracts to provide services for other local authorities and the Government.
I really don't know what the objection is, I suspect it has more to do with personal antagonism to David Mcilhennie. he has won awards for introducing innovative services - are you saying they have all been conneded by him? Dont be ridiculous.
So it's not true then that Liverpool City Council has paid out £1.6m to three City Council Officers at the same time that they are cutting services to the City's vulnerable young and elderly?
Trust me the good people of this City want to see the vulnerable young and elderly taken care of and we are totally against these fat cat payments. So you know what you can do with your awards for introducing innovative services...
By the way congratulations on your respect for freedom of speech -Tori Blare is entitiled to her/his opinion even if you don't like it - no wonder we have lost all faith in politicians...
"Liverpool Direct has been one of the great success stories of the administratrion in the last ten years."
Anonymous, you are having a laugh aren't you ?
You are all living in a fools paradise - if there had been anything wrong with LDL the police would have come in by now. The fact that they havent just shows that it is all propaganda and lies. In the meantime you try to throw as much dirt as possbile and hope that some of it sticks. Its pathetic. The truth is that this little blog has not made the slightest difference to anything in Liverpool - 'Slow' Anderson is still in opposition, Bradley is still the leader and Storey and Hurst are in the same positions. The officers do what the ruling group tells them, no ifs, no buts - exactly how it should be.
If it weren't for Liverpool Direct and the Lib Dems having the guts to take some difficult decisions (which Labour would run away from) the council tax would be through the roof.
You lot are living in your own little world. Why don't you emigrate to Cuba or Paraguay or somewhere?
You are just like the Militant of old.
I do apologise my previous entry was awash with typing eoores whoops! Am i too late?
Don't be angry at Anonymous who thinks the blog should have been shut down. It is understandable that some people feel this way, it is after all hard to believe that such a disgraceful series of things should have happened in this city with nobody prepared to do anything about it.
It is also a sad fact that while we still wait for an announcement on the standards board investigation into Warren Bradley, it cannot be disputed that Mr Storey has now twice been found guilty of breaking the code of conduct for Elected representatives-Fact.
Councillor Hurst has been found guilty of a criminal offence and given a hefty fine. He would also have been found guilty by the standards board if his actions had been one month later when the new code of conduct was introduced bearing in mind that he was found guilty in court. He just got away with it because of the timing-Fact!
Regardless of the fact that he escaped any punishment from the standards board because it was not covered in the Code of conduct at the time the crime was committed.
By any moral argument, for Hurst to skulk around and deliver anonymous deceitful smearing leaflets to the public is the real act of evil not a blog site that merely exposed it and talked about it when the sycophantic local press hoped to bury the story.
And that of course is why the blog came into being because truth has been strangled by this administration. Liverpool Direct has been questioned under the Freedom of Information Act about how the contracts came about to absorb council services into an IT contract and how was it tendered and on whose authority. The response is being denied and it is now about 170 days overdue. Again showing the contempt for openness and the taxpayers of the city.
The wholesale transfer of staff to LDL was in many cases based upon proven false reports after services were run into the ground for years making them ripe for taking over by David McIllhinney who drove the council services into the private partnership company of which he was executive director whilst also an Executive director of the council. A clear and blatant conflict of interests.
The audit commission and KPMG in their reports much of which has been kept secret found fault with the way the contracts had been arranged and the lack of financial clarity and transparency with around £15million pound being not properly accounted for. Before any programme of changes to the delivery of these services or investigation, the executive board quickly extended the contract for a further 5 years without any tendering or discussion or examination to see if it was providing value for money.
Now I don't think that raising questions about all of the above is either a smear or evil or indeed Labour propaganda. I think it is a justified concern and questions need to be answered, Unfortunately, the local media seem to be in the pocket of the Lib dem leadership when it comes to the big issues and this is why there is suspicion and a complete breakdown of trust and confidence in the Lib Dem Leadership, who have now shown themselves to be liars on several occasions. That does harm to their own party members much of who are decent honourable people but people that have been locked out of the decision making processes by the inner cabinet and the Executive board, the result of which is a denial of democracy to the people who elected their local councillors. So tell me where now is the deceit and the evil?
Anonymous. That was weak that was.
has no-one seen yesterday@s Daily Post?
http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverpool-news/regional-news/2009/01/24/revealed-council-deal-to-pay-500-too-much-for-every-laptop-64375-22767192/
and what was the £10million management fee for - McIlhenny's blondes?
i was not a great supporter of the militants but one of the good things that they did was to put pressure on council officers to do as they where told, after all they are not elected and should be working as directed by elected members. so it seems strange that anonymous cannot see the comparison between the 2 factions. The only differenace is that the lib dems are only interested in lining their own pockets and supporting thier pet projects. this city has been raped of services and this blog is the only way to find out what is really going on. As for mike storey being mayor next year this is a disgrace he should not be allowed to hold any public office .
It's £34 million management fee - NOT £10 million! Mcelhinney could fucking afford to bring Marilyn Monroe back from the fucking dead for that kind of cash. And they could throw in Ulrika. (Or maybe not).
well how much does milhinney get then? He can't be getting £34 million - but what's his cut of the management fee? BT will be putting him on their Board soon - or maybe he's due a gong in the next Honours list? Arise Sir Rottweiller! What a laugh!
Calm down, calm down. By the looks of things with all his talk of working with Liverpool Direct, Councilor Brant is looking to do a deal with the rottweiller, presumably rather than risk having his balls chewed off by him. So both the Lib Dems and Labour lack the bottle to sort it out properly. Perhaps Tony should start a Parrish Party?
That is the beauty of what Liverpool Direct did within the council. Even if it was prved to be the worst contract ever devised and a a complete rip-off, the idiots who allowed and encouraged this state of affairs have no plan B nor have they any plan for when the contract naturally expires. They are f****d and if Labour get into power, they probably will have to strike a deal with McIllhinney and LDL because presently there is no alternative. BT and LDL could effectively switch the council off if they eriously tried to clip their wings. Click!
Turning the Council off sounds like a jolly good idea to me!
I Never!
